College Freshman: Dos and Don'ts

Going off to college for the first time can be very exciting, stressful, and challenging. It is a transition into independence and responsibility. So before you take that first step onto campus, read these DOS and DONT'S to help you survive during your freshman year of college.

DOS

Attend Every Class

Meet New People. The first time when you arrive in college, the first things you probably want is to get to know a whole new group of people. So, Don’t just stuck in hanging out with friends from your high school only. when your not studying, go out and meet new people.

Don't be a stranger, open your door and get to know the people on your floor. If your door is open, you simply get to know people by seeing them in the hallways.


Sit in the front of class whenever possible.


Be Organized. In college, time is real and that is why planners are very important during your whole college years. Use wall or electronic calendars and mark when assignments are due, test dates, and anything else that is important and time-sensitive. Trust me, missing an assignment or a meeting will cost you a lot. Planning things helps you pace yourself and look ahead.








Attend Workshops. Seriously in my freshman year I attended a lot workshops. I learned a lot about how to prepare my self  for a career fair, interviews, tips for navigating between employer booths, how to follow-up with employers afterwards. So,  Attend those workshop !!!!!!!, It will benefit you in the future.




DON'TS

Buy All Your Books In The Bookstore. Books are very expensive in the books stores. Remember you just need the book for just one semester. So, try to find used books from other sources or ask other students who probably had that class before.

Use sites like Amazon and other websites to buy books at a lower price. Also, a smart way to save money when your buying books in the bookstore is to take advantages of store's price match policy. ASK FOR IT ! because they won't tell you.  I always save plenty of money for just buying, renting used books and sometime price matching.



Procrastinate 



Cheat. This is a serious problem in college. We all know everyone cheat and whisper answers to each other in high school. however college is very different. I'm very serious, most colleges will expel you on the spot so do not risk it.

In college, your an adult and you're supposed to be serious about your education. If a college expel you even a community college will not let your ass register.

 A very low GPA is far better than having an expulsion on your record. You could literally mess up the rest of your life. Don't think you're smart enough to get away with cheating.

Have Fun:

Always celebrate and give a treat or reward yourself after a long week of studying. Go out and have fun. Don't let college stress you out. Enjoying your self  helps you refocus on other pursuits and it truly does recharge your batteries.
